About Michigan Woodcarver

I want to introduce my dad to you as I know he won't do himself justice. - American Nanny

Michigan artist, John O'Leary was introduced to wood carving in 1985. He has studied the carving techniques of such masters as Jim Wicks, Willie McDonald and Pietro Vinotti. John's carving style ranges from life-like carvings to antique and folk art carvings. Collectors throughout the United States, as well as Europe and Africa, have enjoyed his works.

John teaches wood carving in his specially outfitted studio. His humor and teaching style draw students who travel as much as three hours each way for his weekly woodcarving classes. And this is in the middle of a Michigan winter! If you're interested in attending one of his classes you're welcome to send him an email.

John and his wife Jody (my mom) own Homestead Wood Shop in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. Gallery visits are by appointment only although if you're driving by and see John's truck you're welcome to stop in. If you'd like to make sure John will be around when you visit the gallery send him an email with the dates you'll be in town.
